Our walkout and march in solidarity on January 20th...

We participated in the scheduled national Walkout on Tuesday the 20th. We held ours earlier however, so as not to interrupt nap time. :)

We began the day by explaining to the kids what the Walkout was for. We discussed the messaging and invited friends to make their own signs. We worked with the kids to figure out what they wanted to say. Ultimately they made their own message choices.

At circletime, we read Brown Is Beautiful, written by Supriya Kelkar & Noor Sofi and talked about our upcoming Walkout and march (to happen in the courtyard). We also continued our discussions about the science of skin color and put our hands together to look at all of the unique shades of brown of our skin. We compared our skin to a white domino. We noticed that none of us actually has white skin. We are all various shades of brown.

We then got ourselves ready to go outside, Todd met us in the courtyard for the Walkout and march. We had some watchers/supporters and many marchers.

The kids were so proud as they chanted their messages. Go kids! ✊
